Our client, a major UK train operator wanted to launch a WiFi service for passengers on board some of its trains. The service was to offer end-to-end data and voice coverage across a large part of the train operator’s area of operations. As well as passenger entertainment and information services, it was to offer operational cost-cutting services and enhanced safety features.
BWCS helped stipulate the new services, advising on which would be best suited to the train operator’s demands. We prepared an in-depth cost model against which the operator could evaluate the various systems that competing suppliers offered. We designed and wrote the business case for implementation and advised on all possible costs.
In addition, we helped the operator through the procurement process. BWCS set the questions that suppliers had to respond to and cross-examined the final bidders.
Our transport sector experience really helped on this project drawing on our considerable recent experience working on similar projects for international train operator Thalys, the RSSB in the UK, GNER, 21Net, HSBC Rail and BT Openzone.
