Customers Keen on New Apples ...
(16 Jun 2009, BWCS Staff)In another sign that it is the phone that everyone wants, it has emerged that AT&T Mobility has already sold out of pre-order units for the new 3G Apple iPhone. The mobile operator confirmed that no more of the devices could be ordered, for love nor money, and that would-be new customers will now have to wait up to two weeks for new phones to hit the stores.
According to reports from various blogs and internet sites, AT&T Mobility has confirmed that only customers who pre-ordered an iPhone from an AT&T store by June 12th will have their order fulfilled. These lucky few should be able to pick up their shiny new gadget on June 19th. According to the cell company, others, who placed orders after the 12th, will have to wait for up to 14 days. The company has not given any indication of how many devices it has on pre-order.
The Apple iPhone 3G is set to cost customers US$199 for the 16GB version and US$299 for the 32GB version with a two-year contract from AT&T. The phone will be sold in Apple and AT&T retail stores, as well as Best Buy and Wal-Mart outlets.
At the end of last month, spurred on by the success of the iPhone and its applications, Finnish phone company Nokia opened its Ovi content and software store. At the time of launch Nokia said that its new shop will target 50 million mobile phone users who will be able to buy and download new apps online. The company said that owners of up to 50 of its devices would be able to use the site. The store was initially available to users in Singapore and Australia with other countries due to come online very soon. AT&T plans to make the Ovi Store available to its customers in the United States later this year.
