BWCS Press Release - WiFi on Trains Conference, Royal Horseguards Hotel, London, 10th-11th June

(04 Jun 2009, BWCS Staff)

With business travelers rating WiFi connections as more important than food in a recent survey, the eyes of the transport world will be on London next week, where BWCS is hosting its fourth annual WiFi on Trains Conference - Train Communications Systems 2009.

Once again Train Communications Systems 2009 will be the place to meet all the major players in the fast-growing WiFi on trains sector, as operators from all over the world gather to swap experiences and learn from each other's triumphs and failures. This year train operators and suppliers from as far afield as India, Japan, the US, Taiwan and across Europe will gather to discuss the pros and cons of providing continuous, real-time, on-board wireless access to the internet for passengers and staff.

As Graham Wilde, CEO of BWCS, put it, "As trials become fully fledged services and more tenders start appearing for this type of offering, transport companies are becoming fully engaged with the idea that passengers demand this service and, on top of that, the operators themselves can use the connections to make significant cost savings and improvements."

BWCS, which has worked with many of the leading operators on the development and procurement of WiFi on train services, will host a series of presentations by the leading rail companies on the 10th and 11th of June.

Wilde reflected that despite the economic downturn almost every train operator and supplier involved in or interested in this dynamic new sector will be at the conference, either presenting or attending. "This has turned into a truly global event and once again we look forward to hearing at first hand the tales of success and hardship that train operators have to recount regarding their efforts to get WiFi onto their trains."

Among those presenting at Train Communications Systems 2009 will be: Indian Railways, Virgin Trains, Thalys, WiFi Rail (US West Coast Train System), National Express Trains, NTT, Peak Intelligence, WAAV (Boston Rail Trial), Norwegian Rail, Nomad, Icomera, 21Net, Infogain, Lloyds Register Rail, Volo TV, Mosabi Wireless Ticketing, Appear Networks, Orange, Taiwan ITRI and many more.

The conference is sponsored by Icomera, Hughes Network Services and EURail Magazine. 21Net is sponsoring a cocktail event at the end of the first day.
