RM Uses Axinom on Russian High-Speed Trains

(25 Nov 2016, BWCS Staff)

Russian Infotainment system provider RM LLC has chosen Axinom to build a new digital platform for the Russian high-speed Sapsan trains. The Russian company had contracted Axinom to help provide on-board entertainment services including streaming films, magazines, and music, as well as on board shopping, promotions and advertising to travellers on the 3 hours 40 minutes journey between Moscow and St Petersburg, and the 3 hours 55 minutes trek to Nizhny Novgorod.

Axinom points out that its platform covers the full end-to-end media workflow including content management, digital rights management, synchronization and delivery services. It also works with RM to provide on-board services for passengers and to improve operational efficiency of the train’s crew.

The Sapsan service, currently Russian Railways most profitable route by some way, has been in operation since 2009. Since launch it has served some 18 million passengers with the trains travelling at speeds of up to 250kmh (155mph). In 2010 Russian Railways launched a similar Sapsan service to Nizhny Novgorod. Both routes use trains similar to the German ICE fleet, developed and constructed by Siemens. In 2011, the train operator made a €600 million order for an additional 20 trainsets to increase the number of services on existing lines.

Ralph Wagner, COO at Axinom said in a press statement that the reason Russian Railways and RM had selected Axinom was a mixture of a desire to increase revenues, reduce costs and “Significantly improve passenger satisfaction.” Headquartered in Germany, Axinom, is a software solution provider with a variety of subsidiaries in Europe and the US. In the train sector it offers on-board content management and delivery systems as well as Digital Rights management.
