The Day That Icomera Signed up with the Santa Clara VTA …

(12 Jan 2017, BWCS Staff)

Quick off the blocks in the New Year, Icomera has announced that the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has renewed its deal with the Swedish/UK technology supplier to provide WiFi, mobile network solutions and general ongoing support. The US transport operator runs a large fleet of light rail trains and buses in the beating heart of Silicon Valley. According to its own figures it serves some 43 million passengers annually on its three light rail lines and 70 bus routes.

Icomera, which began work with the San Jose-based organisation back in 2011, has installed WiFi kit on all of the VTA’s trains and is in the midst of fitting out some 575 buses. Under the terms of the new agreement, the technology company will provide a dedicated technical account manager to proactively monitor the VTA system and perform remote troubleshooting. Icomera will also offer personalized training and webinars for VTA staff, allowing them to get to grips with the intricacies of Icomera’s web-based MoovManage system.

Having launched a US subsidiary in 2014, Icomera is counting the re-signing of the Santa Clara VTA as a major feather in its cap. Given the tech-savvy nature of the VTA’s ridership, it is not surprising that take up of the on-board WiFi has been popular. According to Icomera’s president in the US, Matt Hardison, “In the first six months of 2016, 77,435 passengers connected to VTA’s on-board Wi-Fi service 750,565 times.”
