CrossCountry Connects With Nomad
(22 Sep 2017, BWCS Staff)UK-based on-train technology specialist Nomad Digital has today announced a new contract with CrossCountry. The deal, which marks an expansion of an existing agreement, will see Nomad provide its digital train technology and associated services to keep the train operator’s passengers connected on their journey.
The agreement covers CrossCountry’s 58 Voyager trains, five High Speed Trains and 29 Turbostar units. Nomad reports that the installation of its on-board kit on the extra trains will begin this winter.
CrossCountry runs services the length and breadth of the UK, from Scotland to Cornwall, the North West to the South Coast and between Wales and East Anglia. It is expected that Nomad’s on-board WiFi service will be available on all parts of the routes. The Newcastle-based supplier said the new multi-million-pound agreement will continue up to 2020 and will “contribute to CrossCountry’s digital rail strategy to offer its passenger leading technology solutions that enhance the journey experience.”
As well as the on-board systems, Nomad said that it will provide technicians on the ground offering dedicated engineering maintenance expertise.

Welcoming the new agreement, CrossCountry’s Commercial Director, Ben Simkin, said: “With our trains travelling the length and breadth of Britain, it was important that we secured a partner that could deliver a robust and reliable WiFi solution. Good WiFi is now an expectation when people travel, and with some of our customers travelling hundreds of miles on their journeys they want to feel as connected on the train as they do at the office or home.”
