Nomad to Provide More Connectivity on More ScotRail Trains

(05 Oct 2017, BWCS Staff)

UK-based on-train connectivity supplier Nomad Digital has announced it is providing its WiFi solution to Hitachi Rail Europe in Scotland. The systems are being fitted on 70 new Hitachi trains (385 EMU) which have been procured by Abellio ScotRail to operate along the newly electrified central belt routes.

According to Nomad, the contract underlines its position as a preferred supplier to Hitachi Rail Europe for on-train connectivity solutions. At the same time, the Newcastle company argues, it develops and expands its current relationship and scope of services with Abellio ScotRail. Nomad already provides WiFi to Abellio ScotRail passengers and this new contract further extends its solutions on fleets across Scotland.

Nomad already has a relationship with Hitachi Rail Europe through its ‘On-Board Server’ solution that is currently being deployed to the AT200 and AT300 fleets. This provides the opportunity for data exchange from train to shore, enabling the operator’s maintenance teams to minimize impending fleet failures and ensure its trains perform to the highest standards of safety, punctuality and comfort.

The supplier stressed that its latest connectivity architecture incorporates modern technologies including next-generation access points and will enable Abellio ScotRail to add to their suite of passenger connectivity services, or build their predictive maintenance strategies to ensure fleet availability is fully optimised.

Jean-Philippe Tissot, Nomad Digital chief commercial officer, said “We are delighted our connectivity solution with Hitachi Rail Europe will benefit Scottish rail passengers now and into the future.”

On-board WiFi, trackside networks, the growing market for passenger WiFi services and on-board entertainment formed the main subjects of the recent WiFi on Trains Conference hosted by BWCS (www.Traincomms2017.com ). For more information on 2018’s event please contact Ross.Parsons@BWCS.com

This year's Train Communications System Conference was sponsored by Icomera (Gold), Nomad Digital (Silver), Fluidmesh (Bronze), 21Net (Cocktails), LetsJoin (Lunch Day 1) and RADWIN (Lunch Day 2).
