SNCF Signs Major Multi-Year Internet On-Board Deal with Nomad Digital
(07 Jul 2023, BWCS Staff)UK-based transport connectivity specialist Nomad Digital, reports that it has been signed by SNCF Voyageurs to upgrade the on-board WiFi service. The deal, which Nomad says is a four-year base frame contract, contains an option for a three-year extension, and will see the Newcastle-based company install its Internet On-Board 5G solution on the French company’s high-speed trains (TGV INOUI).
Nomad signed the deal following a comprehensive Public Tender exercise which lasted nine months. The terms call for the upgrading of up to 355 TGV INOUI high-speed trains across France. It also covers the operation and maintenance of the Internet On-Board solution to provide monitoring, reporting and train intervention services as part of a service level performance agreement.
Voyageurs is the passenger transport arm of the SNCF Group. It carries some five million passengers daily on its short and long-distance services in its home country of France, as well as across Europe. Its operations include Transilien in Ile-de-France; regional train operator TER, and TGV-Intercités.

SNCF, officially launched passenger WiFi services back in 2016. Initially, it was only available on its high-speed Paris-Lyon route. Coverage on the Lyon line was later extended to routes from the capital to Bordeaux, Lille, Strasbourg, Rennes and Marseilles. The long-expected on-board service then became available on 19 of the company’s fleet of over 300 high-speed trains. The remainder were added during 2017.
