Passengera to Provide Polish On-Train WiFi

(18 Mar 2024, BWCS Staff)

Prague-based on-train connectivity specialist, Passengera, has announced the completion of a project to put WiFi onto trains in Poland. The value of the contract with PKP Remtrak, a branch of national passenger train company PKP, was not disclosed. The Czech company said that it has equipped 60 carriages with its Passenger G7 multi-service gateway, delivering high-speed internet access for passengers and secure data synchronization for effective operations.

According to Passengera, the G7 solution provides reliable, high-speed WiFi, keeping passengers connected throughout their journeys. The system allows for easy authentication via passengers’ Google and Facebook accounts, which, at the same time, hands the operator useful data on its customers. The system also offers a guaranteed consistent, minimum download speed for every passenger.

In addition, when the trains return to the depot, key data from operational systems, such as CCTV cameras, passenger information systems and on-train diagnostics etc. are synchronized securely to a wayside system.

Passengera points out that the G7 base gateway is equipped with four LTE-A modems and an SIM multiplexor, which, it says, ensure a robust and reliable connection. It securely separates passenger WiFi signal from operational data-flow which is sent separately via a dedicated, secure line.

The Prague-based supplier has won several substantial projects over the past few years and it recently reported an order book of some US$10 million.

In 2023, Passengera announced it had been selected to supply passenger WiFi services on the Riyadh Metro. The brand new, six-line, 85 station, train system, currently under construction in the Saudi capital – at an estimated cost of US$22 billion - will serve a population of over 8 million residents. Passengera will handle the digitisation of the passenger experience – adding WiFi on board, monetising channels and providing a management and monitoring suite.
