Vodafone to Join Chase for Tiscali

(17 Apr 2008, BWCS Staff)

UK-based global mobile operator Vodafone is said to be poised to enter the battle for control of Italian fixed line ISP Tiscali, according to reports in the Financial Times. The newspaper said that Vodafone is mulling both bids for the whole of Tiscali or a possible bid for its UK operations alone.

The Italian company has set a deadline of May 5 for initial non-binding offers, the paper added. Other bidders are likely to include News Corp's Sky TV division, advised by Morgan Stanley and BT Group. Carphone Warehouse is rumoured to be interested in purchasing Tiscali's UK operations alone. Some Italian investors could also be interested in Tiscali's non-UK businesses. These are said to include fibre-based ISP Fastweb.
